Mom was unbelievable I hated calling her, I knew what she would say about it.

“I gotta call triple AAA”

“No just come home”

“I don’t know if I’ll make it”

“Fine”

We’ve called Triple AAA before but there was always a wait so I understood why she said that.

I usually cry when I’m lost or when things go wrong but it was getting close to dark. So I called Uncle Matt’s dad to get some advice and properly remedied it.

“Hey Uncle it’s me”

“How’re you?”

“I’m good but I had car trouble
on the highway and parked

“Do you have the three AAA’s

“Yeah but should I try to make it home?”

“No give ’em a call”
“It’s better to be safe”

He said a quick prayer and told me to call him back so I went ahead and called mom next.

Scared Shitless “Driving Mom’s Car”

I left one home improvement store to go to another and took the highway to get there. But a light came on before the first exit saying there was low tire fuel.

* * *

I knew about low tire pressure from driving dad’s car but I’ve never seen low tire fuel. So I  switched to the lane near the side of the road but the car shook so I parked it.

There wasn’t time to recover my heart had broke again. It took a while to accept the first one. But when he told me I couldn’t do better than him I vowed to never marry him.

“How’s this possible?”
“Didn’t you use protection?”

“No”
“They said I didn’t need it”

“They?”

“Yeah”

“Connor you’re a good man why would you believe them?”

“Well they’re here now so~

“Alright”

“Well I don’t know what you’re gonna do
cause everybody has kids”

“No Connor everybody doesn’t”

I hung up the phone more sure than I’d ever been that if I married a guy with kids it won’t be him.

Depression kicked in immediately but not enough to be with him.

* * *

I love Connor unconditionally but not wanting to marry has nothing to do with his kids. Just a few years back I asked if we could try again but he would only do it on a condition.

“I know you have a kid now
but I’d like to try again”

“So you’re willing to have sex?”

“No”

“Well I have two now and I don’t wanna try again
unless we’re gonna have sex”

I took out trash the next day and noticed something in their yard it looked like the lid that went missing trash day. So I stood atop a stone so I could get a better look but wasn’t sure if it was it.

* * *

Our trashcan went missing when they first moved here an identical one was on their porch the next day. It was chained to their gate like it was always there but it wasn’t there before trash day.
